Okay, so I’ve been wanting to check out Kaaterskill Falls for ages. It’s supposed to be this amazing waterfall, super tall, and I’d seen pictures online. I figured, “Hey, I wonder if you can swim there?” So, I started my mission to find out.
Digging for Info
First, I hit up Google. Just a basic search, you know, “can you swim at Kaaterskill Falls?” I scrolled through a bunch of websites – some official park stuff, some travel blogs. It was kind of a mixed bag. Some places mentioned swimming was dangerous, others didn’t say much about it at all. It was confusing!
Finding the Facts
I dug a little deeper. I found some forums where people were talking about it. A few people said they’d seen folks swimming at the bottom of the falls, but they also warned about slippery rocks and strong currents. Sounded a bit risky, to be honest.

My Trip to Kaaterskill
So, I decided I had to see it for myself. I packed my hiking boots, my swimsuit (just in case!), and headed out. The hike up to the falls was pretty intense! It was steep, rocky, and I was definitely sweating. But man, when I got to the top and saw the falls…wow. It’s HUGE.
At the Falls
I spent some time just taking it all in. I noticed there were signs posted all over saying swimming wasn’t allowed. And honestly, looking at the water, it made sense. The current looked really strong, and there were tons of rocks. I definitely wouldn’t want to risk it.
I saw a few people dipping their feet in at the very edge, but nobody was actually swimming. I talked to a park ranger who was walking around, and she confirmed that swimming is a no-go. She said it’s super dangerous, and people have gotten hurt (and worse) trying it.
My Conclusion
So, after all that, I figured out the answer: Nope, you can’t swim at Kaaterskill Falls. It’s just too risky. But even though I didn’t get to swim, the hike and the views were totally worth it. It’s an incredible place, and I’m glad I went. I ended up just enjoying the scenery and taking a ton of pictures. Still a great day!
