Okay, so yesterday I decided to take a little road trip and explore some of the smaller towns in Missouri. I’ve lived here my whole life, but mostly stuck to the bigger cities. Time to change that! I did a quick search for “cute small towns in Missouri” and started planning.
Getting Started
First, I grabbed my notebook and jotted down some potential towns. The list got pretty long, pretty fast! Missouri has tons of these little hidden gems, apparently. I narrowed it down based on driving distance – ain’t nobody got time for a 10-hour drive!
The Chosen Ones
I picked out three towns that looked promising: Rocheport, Arrow Rock, and Hermann. They all seemed to have that small-town charm I was craving, with a bit of history thrown in.

- Rocheport: I Saw some pictures of cute old buildings and it was near the Katy Trail, I want to ride it.
- Arrow Rock: Historic site! Sounded cool.
- Hermann: This one kept popping up as a popular spot, lots of wineries apparently.
Hitting the Road
I packed a bag with some snacks (essential!), water, and my camera. Filled up the gas tank, and hit the road early in the morning. The drive itself was pretty nice, lots of rolling hills and farmland. Missouri can be really beautiful when you get out of the city.
Rocheport – First Stop!
Rocheport was super cute! I walked around the main street, popped into a few antique shops, and grabbed a coffee at a local cafe. It was so quiet and peaceful. I can totally picture myself relaxing on a porch swing there. I’m also a little obsessed with the katy trail, so i must go back to ride it!
Arrow Rock – History Time
Next up was Arrow Rock. This place was like stepping back in time! I wandered through the historic buildings and the small visitor center. It was a nice change of pace.
Hermann – Wine Country
Finally, I made it to Hermann. This town was definitely the busiest of the three, but still had that small-town vibe. I didn’t plan do any wine tasting cause one, I was driving, and two, I visited the wineries before. It was getting late, so I only spent a little time here.
Heading Home
After Hermann, I started the drive back home. I was pretty tired, but it was a good kind of tired. It’s amazing what a day trip can do for your soul, you know? I definitely want to explore more of these small Missouri towns in the future. It’s easy to forget how much there is to see right in your own backyard!
