Okay, so my entertainment center was a hot mess of wires. Seriously, it looked like a snake pit behind there. I finally got fed up with it and decided to tackle the problem. I needed a better power strip situation.
First, I took everything out. Unplugged the TV, the game console, the soundbar, everything. This gave me a good look at what I was dealing with – dust bunnies the size of actual bunnies and a tangled web of cords.
Then, I did some quick measurements. I needed to figure out how long of a power strip I needed and how many outlets. I counted everything I needed to plug in and then added a couple extra for good measure. You never know when you’ll add another gadget, right?

Next, I went online, I looked at a few different options, from basic power strips to fancy surge protectors with USB ports. I ended up going with something in the middle – decent surge protection, plenty of outlets, and a couple of USB ports for charging controllers and stuff.
The Installation (aka Wrangling the Wires)
Once the new power strip arrived, it was game on. I started by mounting the power strip itself. Some people like to use those adhesive strips, but I’m not a fan. They always seem to fail eventually. I used some small screws and secured it to the back of the entertainment center, out of sight.
Then came the fun part – plugging everything back in. I took my time with this, making sure each cord was plugged in securely and not twisted or bent at a weird angle.
- TV: Plugged in, check.
- Game Console: Check.
- Soundbar: Check.
- Streaming Device: Check.
- Extra Stuff: Check,Check,Check!
I bundled the extra cord lengths with some Velcro straps which is a life-saver for keeping things tidy. No more snake pit!
Finally, I stood back and admired my work. Okay, maybe “admired” is a strong word, but it looked a heck of a lot better than before. Everything was organized, easily accessible, and most importantly, safe. No more tripping over loose cords or worrying about overloaded outlets. I really realized that a clean and orderly wire management is more important than I ever thought.
