Okay, so I saw this “mini skirt Christmas” trend and thought, “Why not?” I’m all about trying fun, festive things, especially if it involves a little DIY action. So, I grabbed an old, plain mini skirt I had lying around – you know, the kind you never really wear anymore but can’t bring yourself to toss.
Getting Started
First things first, I needed some inspo. I scrolled through some pictures online, looking for ideas. I saw a bunch of cute ones with little Christmas trees or snowflakes, but I wanted something simple yet, like, noticeable, you know?
The Fun Part: Decorating!
- I went to the craft store and picked up some festive fabric scraps – red, green, white, the usual suspects.
- I also got some sparkly stuff, because, duh, it’s Christmas! I found some tiny jingle bells and some glittery ribbon.
- Back home, I laid the skirt out flat and just started playing around with the materials. I cut out some small holly leaf shapes from the green fabric and some little circles from the red for the berries.
- Then, the messy part! I used fabric glue to stick the holly and berries around the hem of the skirt. It was a little tricky, not gonna lie, the glue kept getting everywhere, but I managed.
- I sewed the jingle bells onto the points of the holly leaves. This took a bit of time, My finger got pricked a few times, but it added that extra Christmas-y touch, it was totally worth it!
- Finally, I added a thin line of the glittery ribbon just above the holly and berries, I glued it down to make sure it was secure.
The Result
I let it all dry overnight, and honestly, it turned out pretty cute! It’s not perfect, of course, the edges are a bit rough and the glue is a little visible if you look closely, but hey, it’s handmade! I wore it to a small Christmas gathering with friends, and received a bunch of compliments.

It’s definitely a fun little project to get into the Christmas spirit, and it’s way more satisfying than just buying something from the store. Plus, I recycled an old skirt! Win-win!
