Okay, so I really wanted to plan a chill winter getaway on the East Coast, and I finally got around to doing it. I started by figuring out what kind of vibe I was going for. Did I want to be super active, or just relax and take it easy? I ended up deciding on a mix of both, because why not have the best of both worlds?
First, I looked up some places known for their cool history, since I’m a bit of a history buff. The whole Martin Luther King, Jr. legacy thing really caught my eye, so I thought, “Hey, this could be a meaningful trip too!” I checked out some spots where I could get a dose of that, and it looked like there were a few solid options.
Then, I needed to find a good place to stay. I stumbled upon this list of resorts in Asheville, NC. There were like, 56 of them! I spent a good chunk of time reading reviews and looking at pictures. I mean, you gotta make sure the place looks good for those Insta pics, right? Plus, I checked out prices and how many rooms they had. Some of them looked super fancy, but I was also keeping an eye on my budget.

- Resorts checked: 56 in Asheville, NC
- Criteria: Good reviews, nice photos, reasonable rates
I also thought about hitting up a place with some good music and food. After all, what’s a getaway without some awesome tunes and tasty eats? I found some spots famous for their music scenes and Southern dishes. My mouth was already watering just reading about the food!
A Quick Detour to Anchorage
Then, out of the blue, I got this wild idea to check out Anchorage. I know, it’s not on the East Coast, but hear me out. I heard it’s great for budget travelers, and I do love a good deal. Plus, it’s super close to nature, and I’ve always wanted to see those incredible landscapes. But, I ended up shelving that idea for another time, because I really wanted to stick to the East Coast for this trip.
Choosing the Right Furnace
While planning, I also remembered my furnace at home has been acting up. So, I did a little side quest and looked up some info on the best furnace brands. I mean, who wants to come back from a relaxing trip to a freezing house? I found this guide from Today’s Homeowner that listed the top nine brands based on cost and efficiency. I made a note to deal with that when I got back, but it was good to have the info.

In the end, I managed to plan out a pretty sweet East Coast getaway. I got my history fix, found a cozy-looking resort, and even planned for some good music and food. Plus, I got a head start on fixing my furnace situation. Not too bad for a weekend of planning, if I do say so myself!
