Alright, so I’ve got this cat, right? Super cute, but also super energetic. The problem is, I work all day, and I always feel bad leaving him alone at home. I mean, a cat’s gotta have some fun, you know? So, I went on a mission to figure out how to keep my little buddy entertained while I’m at work.
First thing I did was get him a bunch of toys. I’m talking balls, mice, feathers on a string – you name it. I spread them all over the living room, figuring he’d have a blast playing with them.
- Bought various cat toys like balls, mice, and feather wands.
- Placed toys around the living room for easy access.
Then, I thought, “Hey, cats love to climb!” So, I invested in a cat tree. This thing is massive, it’s got multiple levels, scratching posts, and even a little hidey-hole. I set it up near the window, so he could also look outside and watch the birds. I placed some toys and catnips there for making it fun.

- Purchased a large cat tree with multiple levels and features.
- Positioned the cat tree by the window for outdoor viewing.
Next up, food puzzles. These are basically toys that dispense treats when your cat figures out how to work them. It keeps them busy, and they get a little reward for their efforts. Win-win! I got a few different ones, so he wouldn’t get bored.
- Acquired various food puzzles to dispense treats.
- Selected different types of food puzzles to maintain interest.
I also tried leaving the TV on for him. I found this channel that’s just birds and squirrels, and he seemed to enjoy it, at least for a little while. Sometimes I’d switch it to a nature documentary or something, just for some variety.
- Left the TV on with nature channels playing.
- Varied the TV content to include different nature documentaries.
And lastly, I set up a little obstacle course using things I already had around the house. Pillows, blankets, boxes – I just arranged them in a way that he could jump, climb, and crawl through them. I’d change it up every few days to keep it interesting.
- Created an obstacle course using household items.
- Regularly rearranged the obstacle course to provide new challenges.
Results
Honestly, it’s been a bit of a mixed bag. He definitely seems less bored than before. He loves the cat tree and the food puzzles. The TV thing works sometimes, and the obstacle course is a hit or miss, depending on his mood. But overall, I think I’m on the right track. I feel better knowing he’s got things to do while I’m gone, and he seems happier too. It’s all about trial and error, I guess. You just gotta keep trying different things until you find what works for your furry friend.
So, yeah, that’s my story. If you’ve got a cat and you’re trying to keep them entertained, hopefully, this gives you some ideas. Just remember, every cat is different, so you gotta find what makes your little buddy tick.
