Okay, so, today’s post is about “no no life 1,” yeah, a bit of a weird title, I know. But stick with me, it’s gonna make sense.
So, I got this idea, right? I was browsing through some music sheets online, specifically for this anime called “No Game No Life.” I don’t even watch the show, but I love its opening song! I stumbled upon some piano sheets for the opening, and I thought, “Hey, I wanna learn that!” I mean, who doesn’t want to play their favorite tunes on the piano?
I found this website that’s supposed to teach you how to play songs easily. Apparently, these sheets are simplified or something. Anyway, I jumped right in, started with the intro. The chords are like, C#m, A, E, F#, that kind of thing. I am pretty familiar with music theory, so I managed to do that.

But here’s the thing, I’m not just gonna learn the song. I wanted to make something out of it. I got this other crazy idea to turn this into a game. Yeah, you heard me, a game! I was reading this article about a game, and it made me want to try making one myself. So, I searched around for how to make games and stumbled on how to install and set up the environment for a game called “No Robots No Life” on Windows. Looked simple enough for a beginner, I thought.
Now, I’m not a coder or anything, but I figured I could learn, right? I started with the basics, just trying to get the hang of the controls, understanding the interface. I followed the instructions, installed all the necessary stuff, and boom, I had the game dev environment all set up on my PC!
Getting into the Development
- I watched tons of videos. Seriously, my watch history is just full of game development tutorials. I learned a lot by watching these.
- I started with simple movements. Just trying to get a character to move on the screen was a challenge, but I got it eventually!
- I added music to it. It was a no brainer, I took my piano piece, the “No Game No Life” opening, and incorporated it into my little project. It felt amazing to see it all come together.
I kept working on it, day in and day out. I learned how to create levels, add obstacles, and make the game more interactive. It was rough, I made tons of mistakes, but I kept going.
Finally, after weeks of hard work, I had something playable. It was a simple game where you had to avoid obstacles, all while the “No Game No Life” theme was playing in the background. It wasn’t much, but I was super proud of it.
So that’s my “no no life 1” story. It’s about taking something you love, like a song, and turning it into something completely new, like a game. It’s about learning new things, pushing yourself, and most importantly, having fun. It doesn’t matter if you’re not a pro, if you have a passion for something, just go for it! You never know what you might create.
The whole process of making this game, even though it’s small and simple, really makes me think of something. I read somewhere that “The Game is a mind game in which the objective is to avoid thinking about The Game itself.” I guess in a way, making this game was my way of not thinking about “The Game.” I was so focused on creating that I didn’t have time to think about anything else. So maybe, in a weird way, I won the game by not playing it, haha.
This little project of mine, it’s taught me a lot. It showed me that I can learn new things if I put my mind to it, and that even the smallest of projects can be rewarding. I hope this inspires you to try something new, too! Maybe you’ll find your own “no no life 1” project, who knows?
