Okay, so, I’ve been trying to crack this crossword puzzle lately. You know, the one from the LA Times. And there’s this one clue that had me stumped for a good while: “Did exceedingly well.” I mean, who even uses that kind of phrase, right?
I started by just staring at it. Like, literally just staring, hoping the answer would magically appear in my brain. Didn’t work. So then I tried to think of synonyms, you know, words that mean the same thing. “Succeeded,” “excelled,” “triumphed”… nothing was fitting in the puzzle.
- Then, I started checking online crossword forums. I always do that when I have no idea how to continue.
- I even checked some crossword clue databases. You know, those websites that have lists of clues and answers. Found a few that said there were like 40 possible answers, which wasn’t really helpful. Others said it has only 1 possible answer, but I did not see the exact result.
- After that, I even read through some random online articles about crossword strategies. Nothing I didn’t already know, honestly.
I was getting a little frustrated, I’m not gonna lie. I almost gave up, but then I decided to just take a break. I went for a walk, got some fresh air, and when I came back, I looked at the puzzle with fresh eyes.

Finally got it!
And guess what? The answer just popped into my head! It was “TOREITUP.” I filled it in, and it fit perfectly! I felt so accomplished, haha. It’s funny how taking a break can sometimes be the best way to solve a problem. Anyway, just wanted to share my little victory. Maybe it’ll help someone else who’s stuck on the same clue. It was such a good feeling when I finally cracked it!
