Okay, so, I’ve been messing around with different types of hats lately, you know, trying to switch up my style a bit. And I got into this whole thing of figuring out the deal between dad hats and snapbacks. They both seem pretty chill, but there’s gotta be something that sets them apart, right?
So, I started with the whole baseball thing. Turns out, baseball caps, as you’d expect, came from, well, baseball. Like, way back in 1860, players were using them to keep the sun out of their eyes. Makes sense. Then, dad hats, which are basically a type of baseball cap, started popping up as a fashion thing in the 70s. They were all loose and comfy, and everyone from college kids to middle-aged dads started rocking them.
I grabbed one of each, a dad hat and a snapback, from my closet. First thing I noticed was the brim. The dad hat’s got this curved, floppy brim thing going on. It’s pretty relaxed, gives off a casual, laid-back vibe. The snapback, on the other hand, has this flat, stiff brim. It’s more structured, you know? More in-your-face kind of style.

Then I checked out how they fit. The dad hat was all soft and unstructured, like it would just mold to your head. It felt super comfy, I gotta say. I could see why people dig these for just everyday wear. The snapback, though, it’s got those panels that make it stand up more. It’s got a definite shape to it, and it felt a little more formal, maybe?
The biggest difference, though, is in the back. The dad hat has this strap thing, usually with a metal buckle or Velcro. You can adjust it, but it’s pretty basic. The snapback, like the name suggests, has those plastic snaps. They click together, and you can adjust the fit that way. It’s more noticeable, for sure, makes more of a statement.
My Personal Take
- Dad Hat: Super chill, comfortable, great for a relaxed look. The curved brim is its signature, and it’s easy to just throw on.
- Snapback: A bit more bold, with that flat brim and the snap closure. It’s got a more defined shape and feels a bit more put-together.
Honestly, I like both. It really just depends on what I’m going for. If I’m just running errands or hanging out, the dad hat is my go-to. But if I want to feel a little more styled, I might grab the snapback. I even tried wearing the snapback backward, which, you know, is a whole other look. It took some getting used to, but I think I pulled it off. Maybe.
At the end of the day, it’s all about personal preference. I just wanted to figure out what made these two hats different, and now I’ve got a better idea of when to wear each one. It’s fun experimenting with this stuff, you know? You learn a little something about your own style in the process. And don’t forget, they are really great at keeping the sun out of your eyes!
