Okay, so, it was our anniversary, and I wanted to do something special. Not just the usual dinner and a movie, you know? I decided to plan a getaway to somewhere beautiful, somewhere we could just relax and enjoy each other’s company. After some digging around, I stumbled upon Washington State. I’d heard it was gorgeous, with everything from mountains to the ocean. Sounded perfect!
First things first, I had to figure out where in Washington to go. The state’s huge, and there’s so much to see. I spent a good chunk of time looking at different areas. Did we want a cozy cabin in the mountains? A fancy hotel in the city? Or maybe a beach house with ocean views? Finally settled on the San Juan Islands. Picturesque, quiet, and seemed like the perfect escape.
Next up, booking a place to stay. I wanted something unique, not just any old hotel. Browsed through tons of listings, comparing prices and amenities. Found this amazing spot called Roche Harbor Resort. It was a bit of a splurge, but hey, it’s our anniversary! It looked stunning, right on the water, with a bunch of activities to keep us busy. Booked it!

With the main part sorted, I started thinking about what we’d actually do there. I checked out some local tour companies, read reviews, and found a few things that caught my eye. There were a bunch of outdoor activities – kayaking, whale watching, hiking – you name it. And the island was full of cute little towns and shops to explore. I didn’t want to over-plan things, but I made a list of potential activities, just so we had some options.
Finally, the day arrived! We packed our bags, hopped in the car, and made the drive up to the ferry terminal. The ferry ride itself was an adventure! The views were incredible, and it really set the tone for the whole trip. Once we got to the island, we checked into our resort, and wow, it was even better than the pictures. Our room had a balcony overlooking the harbor. It was breathtaking.
- Explored the Resort: We spent the first day just wandering around the resort, checking out the shops, and enjoying the scenery.
- Dinner with a View: Had a delicious dinner at the resort’s restaurant, right on the water. Perfect ambiance.
- Kayaking Adventure: The next day, we rented kayaks and paddled around the harbor. Saw some seals and even a few whales in the distance!
- Island Hopping: Took a ferry to another one of the islands and explored the little towns. Found a cute cafe for lunch and browsed some local art galleries.
- Relaxation Time: Spent our last day just relaxing by the pool, reading, and enjoying the peace and quiet.
It was honestly the perfect anniversary getaway. We got to spend quality time together, explore a beautiful new place, and just recharge. It felt great to disconnect from our usual routines and just focus on each other. Washington State, you did not disappoint! This trip reminded me how important it is to make time for these kinds of experiences. It’s not just about the place, but about the memories you make together. Already thinking about where we should go for our next anniversary!
