Okay, so, about this winter in Los Angeles thing. It’s not your typical “snowed-in” kind of winter. I mean, LA is known for sunshine, right? So, I packed my bags with some light jackets and layers, thinking I’d be soaking up some rays even in December.
First thing I did? I went straight for this thing called Astra Lumina. Apparently, it’s this awesome light show that everyone’s been talking about, and it’s only back for the winter. I walked through this place, and it was like being inside a kaleidoscope or something. I took a bunch of pictures, tried to capture the vibe, but honestly, you gotta see it for yourself.
Then, I thought, “Gotta check out these holiday markets.” I heard they have all these unique, handmade gifts. I found this one pop-up market near downtown, it was a bit crowded, but totally worth it. I snagged a cool, hand-painted ornament and some locally made candles. They smelled amazing, by the way.

But it wasn’t just about the city stuff. One day, I decided to get out of town and see what this “winter wonderland” talk was about. Turns out, there are some mountains not too far away where you can actually find snow! I drove up there, found a nice spot, and just took a long walk. It was peaceful, quiet, and yeah, a little chilly, but not freezing. I even saw some people trying to build a wonky-looking snowman. I didn’t go full-on skiing or anything. But I enjoyed the snow view a lot.
And the food! I ate so much good food. There are these seasonal menus at some restaurants, with all sorts of warm, comforting dishes. I had this incredible soup one night that just hit the spot after a day of exploring. There is a food truck selling hot chocolate, and I had one. It is not a bad idea enjoying delicous food in this season.
Overall, my winter trip to LA was a blast. It’s definitely a different kind of winter experience, more about enjoying the outdoors without being bundled up like an Eskimo. You get the festive vibes, the unique markets, the pretty lights, and even a little taste of snow if you want it. Plus, the weather is still pretty nice compared to other places. I’d totally recommend it if you’re looking for a sunny, but still somewhat seasonal, getaway.
I did not do these things you know. But it is interesting, right?
- Ice skating
- ice hockey
- winter camping
- cross country skiing
- downhill skiing
- snow shoeing
- hunting
- caroling at Christmas
- making snow angels
- making snow forts
- snowball fights
Maybe I will try them next time.
