Today, I felt like doing something different, something that’s been on my mind for a while. It’s about “speaking life into someone”. I know, it sounds kinda cheesy, but it’s really about using your words to lift people up.
So, this morning, I started by just paying attention to the people around me, like really noticing them. My neighbor, Mrs. Davis, was out watering her plants. Usually, I just wave and go about my day. But today, I stopped and talked to her. I told her how much I loved her roses and how they brightened up the whole street. You should have seen her face light up! It was like I flipped a switch.
- Made a mental note to be more mindful of my words.
- Decided to compliment at least one person a day.
- Struggled a bit with being genuine, but practiced makes perfect, right?
Then, at the coffee shop, I saw the barista looked totally swamped and stressed. I made sure to be extra patient and when it was my turn, I thanked her for making my coffee and said I appreciated how hard she was working. She actually smiled, a real, genuine smile. It wasn’t much, but I think it made a tiny difference in her day.

Later, I called my friend, Sarah, who’s been going through a rough patch lately. Instead of just listening to her vent, I made a conscious effort to point out her strengths and remind her of all the awesome things she’s accomplished. I encouraged her not to give up on her project. We talked for an hour, and by the end of the call, she sounded so much more hopeful.
In the evening, I noticed that my family was quiet and maybe a little down, perhaps because of work. Instead of retreating to my room to work on my computer. I decided to initiate a conversation with everyone. I shared my experience with Mrs. Davis and my friend, Sarah. I did not expect that it encouraged my family to share their own stories about being nice to others today. We laughed and shared, it was a good time.
What I learned today:
- Words are powerful. They can build up or tear down.
- It’s not always easy to be positive, but it’s worth the effort.
- Speaking life is contagious. When you lift others up, you lift yourself up too.
- Being kind to people is actually good.
Honestly, it was a good day. I felt good. It’s amazing how much of a difference you can make just by being intentional with your words. I’m definitely going to keep doing this. It’s such a simple thing, but it can have a big impact. Try it, you will see what I said is true.
