Okay, so, I got this idea to make a “ring flower of life.” Sounds fancy, right? But it’s just a bunch of circles that overlap and make a flower. I saw some pictures online, and I thought, “I can do that!”
First, I tried to draw it. Grabbed a compass, paper, and pencil. Started with one circle. Easy peasy. Then another, and another. It looked okay at first, but then it got messy. My “flower” ended up looking more like a confused, angry doodle. I realized drawing is not my forte.
Next, I thought, “Why not use metal?” I decided to use some wire I had lying around. I bent the wire into a circle, making the first part of my ring. Then, I tried to attach more circles. Let me tell you, bending wire is harder than it looks. My fingers got all sore, and the wire kept snapping. I felt like a blacksmith for a second there! But a very clumsy one.

- I grabbed some pliers to help with the bending.
- I cut the wire into smaller pieces for the smaller circles.
- I tried to solder the pieces together.
Soldering was a whole other adventure. I used this little torch thing to melt the solder and join the wires. It was kind of cool, but also kind of scary. I almost burned myself a couple of times! After a lot of trial and error, and some minor burns, I had something that vaguely resembled a flower. It wasn’t perfect, but hey, I made it!
Then, I remembered seeing some shiny rings with colorful stones online. I didn’t have any of those fancy gemstones, but I did have some colorful beads. So, I glued some beads onto my wire flower. It added a nice touch, I think. Made it look less like a mangled wire mess and more like, well, a slightly less mangled wire mess with some color.
Finally, I worked on making it an actual ring. I shaped a piece of wire into a ring band and attached my wonky flower to it. It was a bit tricky to get the size right. I used this ring sizer thing – you just slide it on your finger and pull until it’s snug. Felt like a real jeweler for a moment there!
The Result
In the end, I had a ring. It was a bit rough around the edges, literally, but it was my “ring flower of life.” It’s not something I’d wear out, but it’s a fun reminder of my little crafting adventure. I might try it again sometime, maybe with better tools and materials. Or maybe I’ll just stick to buying rings. We’ll see!
