Alright, let me tell ya, how them face paints and whatnot, the cosmetics, yeah, that’s what the city folks call ‘em, how they’re made. Don’t expect no fancy words from me, I just tell it like it is.
Making that fancy stuff, you know, the lotions and lipsticks
First off, them factory people, they gotta figure out what they wanna make. You know, like, is it gonna be somethin’ to make your face pretty, or somethin’ to make your hair shiny, or maybe somethin’ to make you smell good? They got all sorts of stuff they put in there.
- Water, yeah, plain ol’ water, that’s in most of it.
- Then there’s this stuff called emulsifier, sounds fancy, huh? It just helps the water and oil mix together, so it don’t look all separated and ugly.
- Preservative, that’s important, keeps the stuff from goin’ bad, you know, like how we pickle cucumbers to keep ‘em good for a long time.
They got other things too, like thickeners to make it creamy, and stuff to make it soft on your skin, and of course, colors! Lots and lots of colors, to make you look all dolled up.
Mixing it all up, like makin’ a cake, but not for eatin’
So, once they know what they wanna make, they gotta mix it all up. They got these big ol’ pots, kinda like my grandma’s soup pot, but way bigger, and they dump all the stuff in there. They got machines that stir it all up real good, so it’s all mixed together just right.
They gotta be real careful when they’re mixin’ stuff, you know. They gotta measure everything just so, or it won’t turn out right. And they gotta make sure everything is clean, real clean, or else the stuff will get all germy, and nobody wants to put germy stuff on their face, right?
Testin’ it out, makin’ sure it’s safe and works good
After they mix it all up, they gotta test it out, to make sure it’s safe to use and that it does what it’s supposed to do. They got folks who try it out, see if it makes their skin soft, or their hair shiny, or whatever. And they gotta make sure it don’t make nobody sick or break out in a rash.
This testing part, it takes a while, you know. They gotta do it over and over again, just to be sure. They don’t wanna sell nothin’ that ain’t gonna work right or that’s gonna hurt somebody.
Putting it in them little jars and bottles
Once they know it’s all good, they gotta put it in somethin’, so you can buy it. They got these machines that fill up little jars and bottles and tubes, real fast. Then they put labels on ‘em, so you know what you’re gettin’. And then they send it off to the stores, so you can buy it and make yourself all pretty.
It ain’t just about lookin’ pretty, it’s about feelin’ good too
Now, some folks might say it’s all just vanity, this makeup stuff. But you know what? Sometimes, feelin’ pretty on the outside can help you feel good on the inside too. It’s like puttin’ on your best Sunday dress, it just makes you feel a little bit better, you know? And there ain’t nothin’ wrong with that.
Lots of different kinds, for different folks
They make all sorts of stuff, you know. Makeup for your face, like that foundation stuff that makes your skin look all smooth, and that mascara that makes your eyelashes look long and fluttery, and lipstick to make your lips all red and kissable. Then they got stuff for your skin, like creams and lotions to make it soft and smooth. And stuff for your hair, shampoos and conditioners to make it clean and shiny.
- Face: Foundation, concealer, powder, blush, bronzer, highlighter, eyeshadow, eyeliner, mascara, lipstick, lip gloss, lip liner.
- Skin: Cleanser, toner, serum, moisturizer, sunscreen, exfoliator, face mask.
- Hair: Shampoo, conditioner, hair mask, hair oil, hair spray, hair gel.
And they got other things too, like perfume and deodorant and soap and all sorts of stuff to make you smell good and feel clean.
It’s a big business, this makin’ pretty stuff
There’s a whole lot of folks workin’ in these factories, makin’ this stuff. And there’s a whole lot of money in it too. People, they like to look good, and they’re willin’ to spend their hard-earned money on it. And that’s just the way it is, ain’t nothin’ wrong with that.
So, that’s the long and short of it, how they make them cosmetics, you know, the stuff to make you look and feel pretty. It’s a whole lot more complicated than you might think, but it all boils down to mixin’ stuff up, testin’ it out, and puttin’ it in jars and bottles. And that, my friend, is all there is to it.
