Alright, let’s talk about this Old Navy, whether it’s that “fast fashion” thing or not.
What is this “fast fashion” anyway?
You know, it’s like those clothes they make real quick, sell ’em cheap, and then folks throw ’em away just as fast. Like those stores always got new stuff comin’ in, always somethin’ different, you know? Like, you buy a shirt this week, next week, it’s old news. That’s what them young folks call “fast fashion”, I reckon.

So, is Old Navy one of them?
Well, lots of folks say yes. I mean, you go in there, and the prices ain’t bad, right? And they always got new stuff, sales all the time. You can get a whole outfit for what you’d pay for just a shirt somewhere else. That’s kinda the “fast fashion” way, ain’t it? Cheap and quick.
- Cheap clothes? Check.
- Lots of new styles all the time? Check.
- Big sales? Check.
Sounds like “fast fashion” to me, but let’s dig a little deeper, like them city folks say.
Where do they make all them clothes?
Heard tell they make ’em all over. China, Bangladesh, Vietnam, places like that. Far away, you know? They got big factories over there, and they can make clothes real cheap. That’s how they keep the prices down, I guess.
But you know, it makes you think. All them clothes, made so far away. And then they gotta ship ’em all over here. That’s a lot of travelin’, ain’t it? And what happens when we’re done with ’em? Just throw ’em in the trash? That don’t seem right.
The trouble with all that cheap stuff

Now, I ain’t got nothin’ against a good bargain. But when you buy cheap, you get cheap, you know? These clothes, they don’t last long. A few washes, and they’re all stretched out and faded. Then you gotta buy more. It’s like a never-ending cycle. And all that throwin’ away, it ain’t good for the earth, that’s for sure.
Heard some folks sayin’ all them clothes end up in landfills. Mountains of clothes, just sittin’ there, rottin’. That’s a shame, I tell ya. We gotta be more careful with what we buy and what we throw away.
So, is Old Navy bad then?
I ain’t sayin’ that. They got some nice stuff, and it’s cheap, that’s helpful when you ain’t got much money. But you gotta be smart about it. Don’t just buy somethin’ ’cause it’s on sale. Think about whether you really need it. Think about how long it’ll last. And think about where it’s gonna end up when you’re done with it.
Maybe we should slow down a bit?
You know, back in my day, we didn’t have all this “fast fashion.” We had a few good clothes, and we took care of ’em. We mended ’em when they ripped, and we wore ’em till they were worn out. Maybe we should get back to that, you know? Buy less, buy better, and make it last.
The Big Question: Fast Fashion or Not?

So, is Old Navy “fast fashion”? Like I said, lots of folks think so. They make clothes quick, they sell ’em cheap, and they always got somethin’ new. But maybe it ain’t so black and white. Maybe it’s somewhere in the middle. Maybe it’s up to us, how we shop and how we treat our clothes.
Here’s what I think.
You wanna buy somethin’ from Old Navy? Go ahead. Just don’t go crazy. Don’t buy more than you need. Take care of your clothes, and try to make ’em last. And for goodness sake, don’t just throw ‘em away when you’re done. Give ‘em to somebody who can use ‘em, or find a way to recycle ‘em. We gotta think about the future, you know? We gotta think about the earth. And we gotta think about them poor folks overseas who makin’ all them clothes for us.
It ain’t just about the clothes, it’s about what’s right.
That’s what I say, anyway. You do what you think is best. But remember, just because something is cheap doesn’t mean it’s a good deal in the long run. And just because everyone else is doin’ it, doesn’t make it right.
Think for yourself, that’s the important thing, no matter what them city folks say about ‘fast fashion’ or whatever it is they call it.
