Okay, so we decided to hit up Oklahoma for our family vacation this year. Honestly, I wasn’t sure what to expect, but we were aiming for something chill and different. Here’s how it all went down.
Planning the Trip
First things first, we started with some good old-fashioned internet research. We looked at a bunch of travel blogs and websites to get ideas. We knew we wanted a mix of outdoor stuff and maybe some city exploring. We’re not huge museum people, but we do like checking out local spots.
- Brainstormed destinations: Oklahoma City, Tulsa, some state parks.
- Checked out travel blogs and forums for real people’s experiences.
- Made a rough itinerary, leaving room for spontaneity (very important!).
- Booked some basic lodging – nothing fancy, just clean and comfy.
Hitting the Road
We packed up the car – snacks, drinks, games for the kids, the whole nine yards. Road trips are all about the journey, right? The drive itself was pretty smooth. We stopped at a couple of quirky roadside attractions, which the kids loved. You know, those giant dinosaur statues and places selling “homemade” fudge.

Oklahoma City Adventures
Oklahoma City was our first big stop. We spent a couple of days there. We walked around Bricktown, which is this cool canal area with restaurants and shops. It was lively, and that was nice.
We also checked out the Oklahoma City National Memorial & Museum. Super impactful. A sad moment in history, but the museum is very well done.
Exploring Nature
After the city, we headed to some state parks. We hiked a bit – nothing too strenuous, just enough to get some fresh air and enjoy the scenery. We found some pretty lakes and even saw some wildlife (mostly squirrels and birds, but hey, it counts!).
- Visited Beavers Bend State Park – beautiful area, lots of trees.
- Tried some fishing (didn’t catch anything, but it was relaxing).
- Camped for a night – made s’mores, told stories, the usual.
Wrapping It Up
After roughing it in the parks for a time, we headed to Tulsa.
We spent our last couple of days there, and after exploring we packed up the car and headed back home.
Overall, the Oklahoma family vacation was a win. It wasn’t anything extravagant, but we made some good memories, saw some new things, and just enjoyed being together. Would definitely recommend it for a low-key, family-friendly trip!
