Okay, so I wanted to find some quiet beach spots in Delaware, away from all the usual crowds. Here’s how I went about it.
Digging Around for Info
First, I started with some good old-fashioned internet searching. I typed in things like “hidden beaches Delaware” and “secluded beaches Delaware”.
I pored over some travel blogs and forums. People were sharing their personal experiences, which is always a good sign, way better than those generic travel sites.

Narrowing Down the Options
- I found a few mentions of places that sounded promising, with folks dropping hints, but not always giving super clear directions (which is kinda the point, right?).
- I quickly realized that some of these “private” beaches weren’t exactly “private” in the legal sense. It is more like less crowded, or harder to get to.
Checking Maps and Satellite Views
Then, I fired up the map to check any beaches that sounded intersting. I zoomed in, looking for beach that might be hard to reach.
Switching to satellite view was key. It really helps to see what the area looks * there parking? Are there a ton of houses right on the beach?
Considering Access Points
I quickly figured out that just finding a beach on a map is not all. The big thing to consider is to find the right spot.
- Public Parks:Some beaches are part of state parks, but might have sections that are less used.
- Road Ends: Sometimes, residential roads just end at the beach, and there might be a tiny bit of public access. I had to be careful about parking in these spots, though.
- Walk-in Access:I also noticed some beaches where the only way on is parking and then walking a bit.
Reading Reviews (with a Grain of Salt)
If I found a potential spot, I tried to find some reviews. I figured out that the most recent review matters.
I also looked for any mentions of “crowded,” “busy,” or “hard to find parking.” Those are big red flags if you’re looking for peace and quiet!
Packing for the Unknown
Since I was aiming for less-developed spots, I made sure to pack everything I would need:
- Plenty of water
- Snacks and lunch
- Sunscreen (duh!)
- Bug spray (those biting flies can be brutal)
- A beach umbrella, because there might not be any shade
- Towels and maybe even a folding chair
The Actual Exploration!
Finally, I picked a weekend, got in my car, and went exploring!

I drove to a few of the spots I’d identified. Some were a bust – way too crowded, or the parking situation was a nightmare. But a couple of places were exactly what I was looking for. Relatively empty, peaceful stretches of sand.
It felt great to just sit, listen to the waves, and enjoy the quiet. It was definitely worth the effort to find these little hidden gems!
