Okay, so I decided to dive into the world of Hinge and really figure out this whole “prompts” thing. I’d heard they were important, but honestly, I was kinda winging it before. My profile was… okay, I guess. Getting a few matches, but nothing really clicking, you know?
So, I started researching – yes, actually researching dating app prompts. I figured there had to be a better way than just saying “I like pizza and long walks on the beach” (though, who doesn’t?).
My Experiment Begins
First, I deleted all my old, boring prompt answers. Clean slate, baby! Then, I spent a good hour just brainstorming. I made a list of things I’m actually passionate about, some quirky things about me, and what I’m genuinely looking for in a partner. I tried to stay to myself, and make the content humorous.

I picked three new prompts that felt like they gave me room to show off different sides of myself. Here’s what I went with and why:
- Prompt 1: “A shower thought I recently had…”
I chose this one because I am always thinking of random stuff. I figured it was a good way to show off my sense of humor and maybe spark a conversation about something totally unexpected.
- Prompt 2: “My simple pleasures…”
For some reason, I thought this would be perfect for sharing the little things that make me happy – think, like, the smell of coffee in the morning, a really good book, that perfect first bite of a burger. It gave me a chance to describe myself more directly.
- Prompt 3: “Two truths and a lie…”
This one is a classic. I used my creativity. It’s interactive and, I hoped, would encourage people to actually message me to guess the lie.
Putting My Prompts to the Test
After that, I filled in my answers. I spent time writing and rewriting them, trying to make them sound natural and engaging. Like, for the “shower thought” one, I went with something ridiculous: “If tomatoes are a fruit, is ketchup technically a smoothie?”
The “simple pleasures” one was easier – I just listed a few genuinely enjoyable things. The “two truths and a lie” one, I spent some time to make it tricky but not too tricky.
Then, I waited. Seriously, the hardest part! I checked my phone like a maniac for the first few hours. Slowly but surely, the messages started coming in. And you know what? They were way better than before.
The Results
People were actually engaging with my prompts! They were commenting on my “shower thought,” sharing their own simple pleasures, and trying to guess my lie. I was getting more matches, but more importantly, I was having better conversations.
I even went on a few dates with people who I felt a real connection with, right from the start. I think I have found a lovely lady because of it.
So, yeah, my Hinge prompt experiment? Total success. It definitely takes a little effort, but it’s so worth it. At least, it was for me.
