Okay, so I wanted to figure out which Connecticut towns are actually doable for commuting to New York City. I mean, the idea of living in a cute, quiet town and still being able to get to the city for work or fun? That’s the dream, right?
Getting Started
First, I grabbed my laptop and opened up a bunch of browser tabs. I started with just a simple search, something like “Connecticut towns near NYC”. I wanted to get a general idea of the options.
Digging Deeper
Then, I started looking at some specific things, such as:

- Train lines: I figured the train would be the easiest way to commute, so I needed to see which towns had good train service to Grand Central or Penn Station.
- Commute times: No one wants a three-hour commute each way, so I focused on towns that were realistically close enough to the city. I was aiming about less than 90 minutes as a goal, and 2 hours as a limit.
- Town vibes: I checked out some town websites and looked at pictures. I wanted a place that felt friendly and had a decent downtown area, not just a boring suburb.
- Read many discussions:I browsed for real experiences from other people.
Making a List
I started a simple list in a note-taking app, jotting down town names that seemed promising. Then I dug into each one a bit more. I looked at train schedules, real estate listings (just to get an idea of prices!), and even some local news websites to get a feel for the community.
I eliminated some towns right away because the commute was just too long. Others I crossed off because they seemed too expensive or just didn’t have the kind of atmosphere I was looking for.
The Result
After all that digging, and it took a while, believe me, I narrowed it down to a few towns that seemed like they might actually work. It’s not a perfect science, of course, and I’ll need to do some more research, maybe even visit a few places. But I feel like I have a much better handle on the options now, and I’m excited to explore them further!
