Okay, folks, let me tell you about the time I tackled cleaning the water lines from my well. It wasn’t glamorous, but hey, gotta do what you gotta do, right?
So, I noticed the water pressure was getting kinda weak, and the water itself? Not looking so great. Figured it was time to give those lines a good clean-out. I’d never done it before, so it was a bit of a learning experience.
Getting Started
First thing I did was shut off the power to the well pump. Don’t want any surprises, you know? Safety first, always. Then, I closed the valve that goes from the well to the pressure tank. Keeps the gunk from flowing back into the system.

The Cleaning Process
Next up, I found a faucet that was furthest away from the pressure tank. I figured that would give me the best chance of flushing everything out properly. I disconnected the supply line to that faucet. That was a bit tricky; gotta have the right wrench, and sometimes those things are on there tight.
I used a food-grade sanitizer solution. I wanted to kill any bacteria or other stuff in the well.
I put that solution into the well and leave it.
- I ran the water from other faucets, one at a time. Started with the ones closest to the pressure tank and worked my way outwards.
- I let each faucet run until the water was clear. Took a while, and I saw some pretty nasty stuff come out. Brown, rusty, yucky stuff. Glad I was getting rid of it!
- I kept going until I’d flushed every faucet in the house. Figured I might as well do it all while I was at it.
Finishing Up
Once I was done with all the faucets, I reconnected the supply line to the one I’d taken off. Made sure it was nice and tight, no leaks.
Then, I opened the valve from the well to the pressure tank, and turned the power back on to the pump.
Finally, I ran all the faucets again, just for a minute or two, to make sure everything was flowing smoothly and there was no air trapped in the lines.

And that was it! Water pressure was back to normal, and the water looked crystal clear. Felt pretty good to have tackled that myself. It’s not a fun job, but it’s definitely doable. Just gotta take your time, be careful, and have a little bit of elbow grease!
