So, I noticed my water was tasting a bit… off. And my skin felt kinda dry after showering. I did some digging and figured out it might be high alkalinity in my well water. Here’s how I tackled it:
Figuring Out the Problem
First, I needed to confirm my suspicion. I grabbed a water testing kit from the local hardware store. These things are pretty simple, you just dip a strip in the water and compare the color to a chart.
Sure enough, the test showed high alkalinity. Not dangerously high, but enough to cause the issues I was noticing.

Dealing with High Alkalinity
I looked up a bunch of ways to deal with this, and some seemed way too complicated. I wanted something straightforward. There were mainly two ways that I thought could work.
- Acid Injection System:That is one way to add a mild acid to the water to neutralize, but I thought it was a little bit difficult to me.
- Water Softener:Then I found that some special water softener can solve it.
My choice
Because I’m not a professional plumber, I chose a water softener at * it did reduce the extra alkalinity and made the water safe to use.
Keeping an Eye on Things
Now, I make sure to test my water every few months, just to keep an eye on the alkalinity levels. If it starts creeping up again, I know I might need to adjust the water softner.
That’s my experience with high alkalinity. It wasn’t too difficult to deal with, thankfully. Just took a bit of research and some simple steps to get my water back to normal.
