Okay, here is my sharing about “last minute fourth of july getaways 2024”:
So, the Fourth of July is just around the corner, and guess what? I hadn’t planned a darn thing! Yeah, I’m one of those last-minute types. But hey, no judgment, right? Anyway, I scrambled to figure out something fun to do. It felt like everyone had these grand plans, and I was just sitting here like a bump on a log.
First, I jumped online, just typing in random stuff like “last-minute 4th of July trips” and “easy Independence Day getaways.” My brain was all over the place. I saw a bunch of articles and stuff, but nothing really grabbed me. I mean, Las Vegas is cool and all, but it’s always packed, especially on a holiday weekend.

Then, I remembered a friend mentioning Greenport, New York. It’s this cute little town out on Long Island. I looked it up, and it seemed pretty chill. I have never been there before so I decided to do some more research on it. I also found some info about the Watergate Hotel in Washington, D.C. which looked kinda fancy. But Greenport seemed more my speed for a quick trip.

I browsed through some pictures of Greenport online. It has this old-timey feel, with cute shops and a harbor. Plus, it’s near the water, which is a must for me in the summer. I booked a little hotel room on a whim. It was a bit more expensive than I wanted, but hey, that’s what you get for waiting until the last second. I am really excited because I haven’t been out on Long Island in ages.
I also called up a buddy of mine, and he was totally down to join. We figured we’d drive up there, which is always a good time, right? We always have a blast on our road trips. We packed our bags with the essentials: some summer clothes, swimsuits, and of course, some snacks for the road.
The drive was pretty smooth, and we blasted some tunes to get in the holiday spirit. When we got to Greenport, it was even cuter than I expected. We checked into our hotel, dropped off our bags, and immediately headed out to explore. We walked around the town, checked out the little shops, and just soaked up the atmosphere. It was nice and quiet which I really liked.
We found a spot by the water to watch the fireworks. It was amazing. It was just a great way to spend the Fourth of July. I mean it is important to celebrate it with family or friends. So even though it was super last-minute, it turned out to be a great little getaway. It wasn’t a big grand adventure, but it was just what I needed. Sometimes, those spur-of-the-moment trips are the best, you know? I will definitely be back next year to explore more of the town and the surrounding areas.
Lessons Learned
- Don’t wait until the last minute to plan a trip, especially for a popular holiday.
- Sometimes, smaller towns can be just as fun as big cities.
- Road trips with friends are always a good idea.
- A little spontaneity can go a long way.
Next year, though, I’m definitely planning ahead. Maybe I’ll even go somewhere really wild, like, I don’t know, maybe to Flagstaff or Sonoma. But hey, even if I don’t, I know I can always find a fun last-minute escape. I may even hit up Boston or Nashville, who knows?
