Okay, so, I’ve been messing around with Fortnite settings, trying to get the best performance, you know? And I stumbled upon something called “Cosmetic Streaming”. Sounds fancy, right? Well, let me tell you about my little adventure figuring this thing out.
What is this Cosmetic Streaming thing?
So, I first noticed this “Cosmetic Streaming” thing in the game’s settings. I was like, what the heck is that? My game was running okay, but sometimes, especially in big fights, it would get a little choppy. I did some digging. I saw some people talking about “Fortnite Cosmetics, Item Shop History,” but that didn’t help me understand how to use it.
Then I found a setting to “disable Cosmetic Streaming.” I thought, hey, maybe this is what’s slowing things down. From what I gather, this feature basically downloads all those fancy skins and emotes on the fly while you’re playing.

You’ve got all these players running around with crazy outfits, and apparently, my computer was trying to load all that stuff in real-time. No wonder it was struggling!
Turning it Off
So, I went ahead and disabled it. Just flipped that switch in the settings. It was pretty easy to find, right there in the options menu.
After I did that, the game did have to download a bunch of stuff. I guess it was grabbing all those cosmetics at once instead of doing it bit by bit during matches. It took a little while, but I just let it do its thing.
Did it Help?
Honestly, yeah, it made a difference! The game feels smoother now, especially when there’s a lot going on. Fewer stutters and hiccups. I’m no expert, but it seems like not having to constantly download cosmetics while playing really freed up some resources.
I also noticed that the textures took a little longer to load when I first joined a match, but after that, everything was golden.
My Two Cents
If you’re having performance issues in Fortnite, especially if you’re on a lower-end PC, I’d say give this a shot. It’s a simple setting change, and it might just make your game run a whole lot better. It’s not rocket science, just a little tweak that can make a big difference. So, go ahead and mess around with it. See if it works for you! Happy gaming, folks!
- Disabled cosmetic streaming in the settings.
- Waited for the game to download a bunch of assets.
- Enjoyed smoother gameplay!
This is just what I did, and it worked for me. Maybe it’ll help you, too. Give it a shot and see how it works on your machine.
