So, the other day I decided it was time to give my “seed of life” bong a good cleaning. You know how it is, after a while, things just don’t hit the same. Plus, it started looking kinda gnarly, and nobody wants that.
First things first, I took everything apart. I mean, you gotta disassemble the whole thing to really get into all those nooks and crannies. I carefully removed the bowl, the downstem, everything that could be detached. Made sure I had all the pieces laid out so I wouldn’t lose anything.
Then, I got myself a big bucket – big enough to fit the whole bong in. I filled it up with some warm water, not too hot, don’t want to risk cracking anything. I remembered reading somewhere that you should use coarse salt and isopropyl alcohol. So, I dumped a good amount of salt in there, maybe like half a cup? Not really measuring, just eyeballing it.

Next, the alcohol. I poured in a bunch, enough to cover the bong when I submerged it. The idea is that the alcohol helps break down the resin, and the salt acts like a scrub. I let the bong soak in that mix for a while, swishing it around now and then. Oh, and for the smaller pieces, like the bowl and downstem, I put them in a separate ziplock bag with the same salt and alcohol mix. Sealed it up tight and gave it a good shake.
- Disassemble the bong
- Prepare a bucket with warm water
- Add coarse salt and isopropyl alcohol
- Soak the bong and smaller parts
- Shake smaller parts in a separate bag
After a good soak, I used this long, skinny brush I got specifically for bong cleaning to scrub the inside. It’s kinda like a bottle brush but way longer and bendier. I scrubbed and scrubbed until I could see the glass getting cleaner. It took some elbow grease, but I was determined to get it sparkling.
Once I was satisfied with the scrubbing, I rinsed everything thoroughly with clean water. I made sure to get all the alcohol and salt residue out. And let me tell you, it looked like a brand new piece! All that gunk was gone, and it was shining like it did when I first got it. I let it air dry completely before putting it back together.
Finally
Took a test run after it was all dry and reassembled, and man, what a difference! Smooth, clean hits, just like the good old days. It’s definitely worth the effort to clean your bong regularly. Trust me, your lungs will thank you, and you’ll enjoy your sessions so much more.
This was my experience cleaning my “seed of life” bong, hope it was useful.
