Okay, so, keeping your dog entertained while you’re at work? It’s a real thing, and I’ve been through it. Let me tell you about it.
First off, I got this new job a few months back. It was great, but it meant leaving my dog, Buster, home alone for longer hours. I felt bad, you know? He’s a good boy, lots of energy, and I didn’t want him getting bored or, worse, destructive.
So, I started looking into ways to keep him busy. I tried a bunch of stuff, some worked, some, well, not so much.

Puzzle Toys
First thing I did was get some puzzle toys. You know, the ones where you hide treats inside, and they have to figure out how to get them out? Buster loved these! It kept him occupied for a good hour, at least. I’d fill them up before I left, and he’d be all over them.
Long-Lasting Chews
Then I got him some long-lasting chews. Not just any chews, but the really tough ones that take forever to get through. I found these yak cheese chews that were a total game-changer. Buster would gnaw on them for hours. It was great for his teeth, too.
Frozen Treats
- Oh, and on hot days, I’d make him frozen treats.
- I’d take some of his favorite wet food, mix it with a bit of water, and freeze it in a Kong toy.
- He loved licking and chewing on it, and it kept him cool.
Dog Walker
But the real lifesaver was hiring a dog walker. I found this awesome lady who comes by midday to take Buster for a walk. It breaks up his day, gives him some exercise, and he gets to socialize a bit. It was worth every penny, let me tell you.
Setting up a Comfy Space
I also made sure he had a comfy space. He has his own bed, a few blankets, and I leave the radio on for some background noise. I think it makes him feel less alone.
So, yeah, it took some trial and error, but I finally figured out how to keep Buster happy and entertained while I’m at work. He’s a happy pup, and I’m a less stressed dog owner. It’s a win-win!
