Okay, here’s my blog post about making a quilted handbag:
So, I’ve been wanting a new handbag for a while, you know, something chic but also practical. I saw this black quilted handbag online and thought, “Hey, I could probably make that!” I mean, how hard could it be, right? Turns out, it’s a bit more involved than just sewing a few squares together, but it was a fun little project.
First, I went and got some black fabric. I chose a sturdy cotton one, figured it would hold up better. I also grabbed some batting, that fluffy stuff you put inside to make it all puffy, and some lining fabric. Oh, and a zipper! Can’t forget the zipper.

Next up, I cut the fabric. I used some old cardboard to make a template, basically just a big rectangle. I cut two of those from the black fabric, two from the batting, and two from the lining fabric. I also cut some long strips for the strap.
Then came the fun part – the quilting! I layered the black fabric, batting, and lining fabric together, like a sandwich, and pinned them all down. I just sewed a bunch of straight lines across the whole thing, making little squares. It took a while, and my fingers got a little sore from all the pinning, but it started to look like a real handbag!
After the quilting was done, I sewed the two quilted pieces together, leaving the top open. I also sewed the long strips together to make the strap, and attached it to the sides of the bag. I’m not gonna lie, sewing the strap was a bit tricky. It took me a couple of tries to get it right.
Then, I added the zipper. That was probably the hardest part, to be honest. Zippers can be a bit of a pain. But after a few deep breaths and a lot of careful pinning, I got it in there.
Finally, I turned the whole thing right side out, and voila! A brand new quilted handbag. It’s not perfect, a little wonky in places, but I made it myself, and that’s pretty cool, right?
- First, gathered materials.
- Then, cut fabric based on a template.
- Next, quilted the fabric.
- After that, assembled the bag and strap.
- Finally, added the zipper and finished the bag.
It’s got that classic quilted look, it’s black so it goes with everything, and it’s big enough to hold all my stuff. I’m pretty happy with how it turned out. It is my first time to make a handbag, it’s not that bad huh? Maybe I’ll try making another one in a different color next time.
If you love handbag, maybe you can give a try! Don’t be afraid! Actually it’s much easier than you think. If you really give a try and make it done, you will get a lot of sense of achievement. Trust me!
