So, I got this petite long black coat thing going on. I’d seen it all over the place and thought, “Why not give it a shot?” I was kinda nervous about it since I’m on the shorter side, and I didn’t want to look like I was drowning in fabric. I’ve also heard that they say oversized clothing is a trend that could make an outfit look good. But I didn’t want to just follow the trend, I wanted to make it work for me. The long coat is cool, really stylish actually.
First thing I did, went online, and looked up some styles on how to wear it. Found some interesting stuff, even got a date of November 8, 2024, for some event, which got me excited. Also, another date I jotted down was April 14th, but I’m not sure what’s happening then. Anyway, I got a few ideas from there, like how to mix and match it with different pieces.
- Tried it on with a simple white tee and jeans. Looked okay, but nothing special.
- Then I put on a pair of high-waisted pants and a tucked-in blouse. That was better. It gave me more shape, made me look a bit taller.
- Next, I tried a dress under it. It was a bit tricky to find the right length. A mini dress made me look short, and a long dress got lost under the coat. A midi dress seemed to do the trick. It was a good balance.
I also played around with accessories. A belt around the waist helped define my shape. I also tried a scarf, which added a nice touch, especially on a windy day. And shoes, oh boy, shoes are important. Heels definitely helped to elongate my legs, but even with sneakers, as long as they had a bit of a platform, it worked out fine.

Main takeaways
It’s all about proportion and balance. If the coat is long and flowy, I need to make sure the rest of my outfit is a bit more fitted so I don’t look like I’m lost in clothes. Also, the right length of dress or skirt can make or break the look. Accessories like belts and scarves are great to change things up, and shoes can totally change the vibe of the whole outfit.
So yeah, that’s been my little experiment with the petite long black coat. It’s been fun, and I’ve learned a lot about how to make it work for my body type. Still playing around with it, but I think I’m getting the hang of it.
