Okay, here’s my story about the well pump problem:
So, the other day, I noticed my well pump was acting all weird. It just wouldn’t stop running! I mean, it’s supposed to turn off once it gets to a certain pressure, right? But this thing was going non-stop. It was driving me nuts, not to mention I was worried about my electricity bill!
First off, I checked to see if any water was actually running somewhere. You know, like a leaky faucet or a toilet that wouldn’t stop filling. I went around the whole house, listening carefully, checking all the taps and everything. Nope, nothing. So it wasn’t something obvious like that.

Then, I started thinking, maybe there’s a leak somewhere in the pipes leading from the well. I read somewhere that if the pressure in the system is too low, the pump will just keep running to try and build it back up. Makes sense, I guess. So I went outside and walked around the yard, trying to spot any wet patches or anything that looked like a leak.
- I looked everywhere, even crawled under the deck.
- I checked the pipes going into the house.
- I even inspected the pressure tank, just in case.
Nothing. No signs of any leaks whatsoever. It was really frustrating.
I figured I’d try the easiest thing next, which was to just open all the faucets in the house. Maybe there was some air trapped in the system or something. So I turned on all the taps, let them run for a while, and then turned them back off.
Still, the pump kept running!
At this point, I was starting to get a little worried. I’m no plumber, and I didn’t want to mess anything up. But I also didn’t want to call a professional just yet if it was something I could fix myself. I decided to do a little more digging online, but honestly most of it was too technical for me.
Finally, after a lot of head-scratching, I figured maybe it was the pressure switch itself. This is the little device that tells the pump when to turn on and off. Maybe it was faulty or something. I found the switch, and it looked kind of old and grimy.
I carefully removed the cover and took a look inside. There were a bunch of contacts and wires, and honestly, I didn’t know what I was looking at. But then I noticed one of the contacts looked a bit burnt and corroded. I remembered seeing a video a while back about cleaning contacts, and thought about how to try it. I got some sandpaper and cleaned it, and then put the cover back on.
And guess what? It worked! The pump finally shut off. I was so relieved! It was a simple fix, but it took me a while to figure it out. I guess sometimes it’s the little things that cause the biggest problems. I fixed it.
