Hey everyone, so I was digging into this whole Kat Von D makeup thing, and let me tell you, it got a little interesting. I wanted to figure out who really owns it now, ’cause I heard some stuff had changed.
So, I started with a simple search. You know, just typing in “who owns Kat Von D cosmetics” and seeing what popped up. I found some articles and posts talking about it, and it looked like things got shaken up back in January 2020.
It seemed like Kat Von D herself posted something on Instagram saying she sold her shares of the brand. That got me curious, so I dug a little deeper. I learned that she had sold her shares to this company called Kendo, which was already a part of the whole thing. They were partners for a while, like 11 years or something.

Here’s where it got interesting: It turned out Kendo is actually owned by another company called LVMH, which is like this huge luxury goods company. But what happened next was, Kendo changed the name of the brand from “Kat Von D” to “KVD Vegan Beauty” right after buying the shares from Kat Von D.
They also said the “KVD” in the new name stands for “Kindness, Vegan Beauty, and Discovery”. Kat Von D isn’t part of the brand anymore, like, at all. She’s completely out.
So, that’s what I found out: Kat Von D doesn’t own her makeup brand anymore. It’s all under Kendo now, which is part of LVMH, and they’ve renamed it “KVD Vegan Beauty”. Pretty big change, right?
It was a fun little investigation. It’s always interesting to see how these things play out behind the scenes with brands we know.
