Okay, so I’ve been getting a lot of questions about how I manage to travel so much without breaking the bank, especially from my Dallas folks. So, here it is – my guide to cheap vacations from Dallas. Let’s dive right in!
First things first, I started by looking for deals. You know, everywhere. I scoured the internet, and let me tell you, there are tons of websites out there promising the best prices. I spent hours comparing flight and hotel combos on KAYAK. They let you compare deals from hundreds of travel sites. I really wanted to book with confidence.
Then, I remembered someone mentioning something about using credit card points. I checked my Chase account and bingo! I had a decent amount of points built up. Chase lets you book with points, your card, or a mix of both. Pretty flexible, right? Plus, they throw in some extra perks when you book travel through them. Score!

Planning the Trip
Now, where to go? I was craving a short getaway, nothing too crazy. Someone mentioned that cities like Tyler, Waco, and Glen Rose are just a couple of hours away from Dallas. Road trip! It seemed perfect, a quick escape from the city’s hustle and bustle.
- Scour for deals: I spent hours on travel sites, comparing prices.
- Leverage points: Checked my credit card rewards and found a good stash of points.
- Consider a short trip: Looked for destinations close to Dallas for a quick getaway.
- Figure out the best time: I figured going in the spring or fall would be ideal.
I also had to think about the timing. I figured that going during the shoulder seasons, like March to May or September to November, would be ideal. Not only is the weather cooler, but it’s also less crowded. Plus, the Texas State Fair is in September, which is a huge bonus. And everyone knows summer in Texas is crazy hot!
Making it Happen
I ended up booking a trip to Glen Rose, which is famous for its dinosaur tracks and nature trails. I found a cute little resort that was surprisingly affordable. And since I was driving, I saved a ton on airfare. I managed to keep the whole thing under $1000, which is a steal for a relaxing getaway. Oh, and guess what? I heard that $5000 is absolutely enough money for a 3 week trip including airfare, as long as you don’t go too crazy and stay in one or two places.
I found a nice little resort that was perfect for a romantic escape. Sometimes you just need a break from the stress of life, right? And traveling with a budget? Totally doable. I also found a nice list of some must-see activities in Dallas: Dallas Arboretum & Botanical Gardens, The Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza, City Tours, Parks.
So, that’s my little secret. It’s all about being flexible, doing your research, and taking advantage of those credit card perks. Trust me, you don’t need to be rich to enjoy a nice vacation. You just gotta be a little bit savvy and know where to look. Happy travels, everyone!
