Okay, so, I’ve been trying to figure out if my concealer is water-based. I heard it’s better for my skin, especially since I’ve got some dryness going on.
First, I checked the ingredients list. I know, I know, it’s like reading a foreign language. But I was looking for “aqua” or “water” at the top of the list. And guess what? I saw it there. But then, I also spotted some other stuff like “dimethicone” and “cyclopentasiloxane” a bit further down. Those sound kind of science-y, right?
So, I did what any normal person would do – I turned to the internet for help. I found out that those science-y words are actually types of silicones. That means if they’re high up on the ingredients list, after water, the concealer is probably silicone-based, not water-based.
But here’s the cool trick I learned: I can just test it out myself! I put a little bit of the concealer on my hand and tried to wash it off with just water. If it comes off easily, it’s water-based. If it’s stubborn and doesn’t budge, it’s probably silicone-based.
My Testing Results
- I applied a small amount of my Dior backstage concealer to my skin.
- I then tried to rinse it off with water.
- It washed off easily!
So, based on my little experiment, my concealer seems to be water-based! I also found some information saying that IT Cosmetics CC+ Cream is also water-based, which is good news for people with sensitive skin.
This whole thing got me thinking about how important it is to know what’s in our makeup. I mean, we put this stuff on our faces every day! I’m definitely going to be paying more attention to ingredients from now on.
I emailed a brand, and they confirmed that both their bestselling concealer and their new foundation are silicone-free! That’s awesome. I was so happy to hear that, and I immediately decided to give them a try. Silicone-free base products are not a common thing.
Anyways, that’s my little adventure in the world of concealer. Hope this helps someone else out there who’s trying to decode their makeup labels! Also, I just found someone said that water-based makeup is usually lighter and more breathable, so, that’s a plus, right?
