So, I’ve been on this huge movie kick lately, right? And I recently rewatched “The Craft,” which is, like, a total classic if you’re into that whole teenage-witchcraft-dark-vibes thing. It got me thinking, what other movies out there have that same kind of feel? I mean, I love the witchy stuff, the whole sisterhood theme, and, yeah, a little bit of that dark humor mixed in.
First, I started by just racking my brain. You know, trying to remember any movies I’d seen that were even remotely similar. I came up with a couple, like, maybe “Practical Magic,” but that’s more on the rom-com side of things, and not really what I was going for. I also thought about darker movies with magic, like “Return to Oz” or “Labyrinth,” but they’re more fantasy than straight-up witchy.
Then, I decided to hit up the internet, because, duh, where else do you go for answers these days? I typed in something like “movies similar to The Craft” into the search bar and started browsing through the results.

There were a few articles and lists that popped up. Some of them mentioned shows like “American Horror Story: Coven” or “The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina.” Which, yeah, I can see that, but I was really looking for movies, not TV series.
I kept digging, and I found some interesting suggestions. One article talked about how some movies use magic in a very literal sense, which I thought was a cool way to look at it. Another one focused on the themes of witchcraft, sisterhood, and dark comedy, which was exactly what I was looking for.
There were also a few mentions of older movies, like, from the 70s, it was “Daughters of Satan”, I vaguely remember something about that. Then someone on a forum mentioned “The Good Witch” movies, but apparently, those turned into a TV series on Hallmark, so, not really what I was looking for either.
I also found some people talking about “The Blair Witch Project,” which, okay, it has “witch” in the title, but it’s more of a found-footage horror thing, and not really the same vibe as “The Craft.”
So, after all that searching, I ended up with a pretty decent list of movies to check out. Here’s what I have so far:
- Practical Magic: This one is similar to The Craft, it was released in 1998, but it has more comedy elements, but it’s still a good movie about witches.
- The Good Witch: This one has a series of seven films from 2008 to 2014. I need to check whether it is dark enough.
- Return to Oz: This one is old, I watched it when I was a child. It is a dark fantasy movie, maybe not what I want.
- Labyrinth: Similar to Return to Oz, I need to rewatch it to confirm it.
- Daughters of Satan: This is a very old movie, I have never watched it. It features Tom Selleck in a very early role.
It wasn’t easy, and there were a lot of dead ends, but I think I managed to find some good leads. I’m excited to start watching these and see if they live up to the “Craft” comparison. I’ll probably update this list as I go. If you’ve got any other suggestions, definitely let me know! I’m always looking for more witchy movie goodness.
The journey of finding some good movies is really interesting and really fun, especially you can find someone having the same idea as you. I really enjoy doing these things.
