Okay, so, I was messing around with this idea for a life vest rack. You know, one of those things you can hang your life vests on to keep them organized and out of the way? I’d seen a few online, but they were all either too expensive or just didn’t look that great. So I thought, “Why not just make my own?”
First, I gathered all the stuff I needed. I grabbed some scrap wood I had lying around in my garage. This is good. Then, I measured my life vests to figure out how big the rack needed to be. I wanted to make sure there was enough space between each vest so they could dry properly.
After I had my measurements, I started cutting the wood. I’m not exactly a master carpenter, but I managed to get all the pieces cut to the right size. If the wood is too small, this is no good. So I cut it again. Then I sanded down the edges to make them smooth. And I got the right size.

Next, I assembled the frame of the rack. I used wood glue and screws to hold it all together. It wasn’t the prettiest thing, but it was sturdy. I have to make sure that this rack is sturdy enough.
Once the frame was done, I added some hooks for hanging the vests. I just screwed them into the wood, making sure they were spaced out evenly. But if the hooks are broken, I have to change them.
Finally, I gave the whole thing a coat of paint. I chose a bright blue color, just to make it stand out a bit. This color is my favorite.
And that’s it! It wasn’t a super complicated project, but I’m pretty happy with how it turned out. Now I have a nice little rack to keep my life vests organized, and it didn’t cost me an arm and a leg.
- Get the right size.
- Ensure the rack is sturdy.
- Check the hooks.
My Thoughts
It is really a good idea. If you’re looking for a simple and affordable way to store your life vests, I definitely recommend giving this a try. It’s a fun little project, and you can customize it to fit your needs. And you’ll get a useful rack.
