Well, Christmas, that big day, you know? It’s all about family getting together, right?
This year, we gonna have a nice family Christmas play. My grandkids, bless their hearts, they been practicing real hard. Little Timmy, he’s gonna be a reindeer, I reckon. Got some antlers and everything. They made ’em outta cardboard, I think. Cute as a button, that boy.
We always do a play, you see. Makes Christmas special. Everyone gets a part, even old me! This year, I’m just narrating. My old bones ain’t what they used to be, can’t be hopping around like I used to. But I can still tell a good story, that’s for sure.

We’ll have us a Christmas dinner, of course. Turkey, stuffing, all the good stuff. My daughter, Mary, she’s a whiz in the kitchen. Makes the best darn gravy you ever tasted. And the pies! Oh, Lord, the pies. Apple, pumpkin, you name it. We’ll be eating good, that’s for certain.
- First, we eat.
- Then, we do the play.
- After, presents!
Before the play, we might play some games. That Reindeer Antler Toss sounds like fun. Throwing rings at some antlers, sounds silly, but the kids will love it. They will laugh their heads off. Christmas is also about having fun. That is all I want. Make them happy.
And after we eat, before the play, we gonna bake some cookies, too. Sugar cookies, mostly. Kids love decorating ’em. Sprinkles everywhere! Makes a mess, but it’s all part of the fun. And we make some bingo cards. We call it Christmas BINGO. The kids wear their pajamas. So cute! We put on some Christmas music. I got this old record player. They don’t make it like they use to.
Then there’s the presents. Oh, the presents! The kids been making their lists for months. Hoping Santa brings ’em what they want. It ain’t about the gifts, really, but it’s nice to see their faces light up when they open ’em. Makes all the work worthwhile. Christmas is a special day for kids. They have so much fun. They are so innocent.
After the play, we’ll probably just sit around and chat. Tell stories, maybe watch a Christmas movie or two. “It’s a Wonderful Life,” that’s a good one. Always makes me cry, though. Happy tears, mostly. Just thinking about how lucky I am to have such a wonderful family.
Yeah, this Christmas play is gonna be something special. Just like every year. It’s the little things, you know? The decorations, the food, the music, the games. But most of all, it’s about being together. That’s what makes Christmas, Christmas. It’s about family, being there for each other, loving each other. That’s what it’s all about.
My grandkids, they’re growing up so fast. Seems like just yesterday they were babies. Now they’re running around, getting into everything. Time sure does fly. But that’s okay. We make the most of it. Every Christmas, every birthday, every holiday. We make memories. That’s what counts. Those are the good days. I miss them already.

This year’s play, it’s about a little lost reindeer. He can’t find his way back to Santa’s sleigh. But then, he meets some other animals, and they help him out. It’s a sweet story. Kids wrote it themselves. They’re so creative. I don’t know where they got the idea. Maybe it is on TV.
I remember one year, we did a play about the first Christmas. The one with baby Jesus. That was a good one, too. Little Mary played the Virgin Mary, and she was so good. Brought a tear to my eye, it did. She practiced every day. Now she helps her kids practice.
It’s important to keep these traditions alive, I think. Pass ’em down to the next generation. So they can have their own nice family Christmas plays, and their own special memories. That’s what I want for them. A good life, full of love and laughter. And lots of Christmas cookies, of course!
So yeah, that’s what we’re doing this year. A play, some food, some games, some presents. And lots of love. That’s what makes a nice family Christmas. I can’t wait. I hope everyone has a good time. I hope they remember this year forever. Hope my daughter’s gravy turns out okay. She is a good cook. It will be fine.
