This here, let me tell ya, staycation, that’s the word them young folks use. Means staying put, not going nowhere far. Now, Long Island, that’s a big place, lots of things to do, I reckon. If you ain’t got the money to go gallivanting all over, you can still have a good time right here. These are some Long Island staycation ideas. I tell ya.
First off, you got them beaches. Lord knows Long Island got beaches. You can pack a lunch, some sandwiches and some sweet tea, and head on down to the water. Sit there all day, watch the waves, watch them kids play in the sand. That’s a good day right there, and it don’t cost nothin’ but a little gas money. Beaches on Long Island are a good idea for a staycation. Yep.

Then you got them parks. Plenty of parks around here. Big ones, small ones, some with them little ponds where you can feed the ducks. Kids love that. You can take a walk, have a picnic, just sit on a bench and watch the world go by. It’s peaceful, you know? And it’s good for ya, gettin’ out in the fresh air. That’s what I always say. Good for the body and the soul. Long Island parks are good.

Now, if you got a little bit of money, not a lot, but a little, you can go to one of them fancy hotels. They got one in Garden City, I hear. The Garden City Hotel. Heard it’s real nice. Probably got a pool, maybe even one of them hot tubs. You can pretend you’re a rich person for a day or two. Live it up a little. Why not, right? We all deserve a little treat now and then.
And them museums, we got plenty of them too. Learn somethin’ new, see some old stuff. They got that one with all them old planes, Cradle of Aviation Museum, I think it’s called. And the one with the fish, the Long Island Aquarium. Kids love that one. Lots of things to see in them places, keeps you busy for a whole day. These are staycation ideas, I tell you.
If you wanna see some animals, well, you can go to the zoo. They got that one in the Bronx, Bronx Zoo, that’s a big one. But it’s a bit of a drive. Closer to home, you got the Long Island Game Farm. Lots of animals there, goats and sheep and all sorts of critters. Kids can pet ’em, feed ’em. It’s a good time, I reckon. And it ain’t too expensive neither.
Then there’s the big city, New York City. Lots to do there, always somethin’ goin’ on. You can go see a show, go to a museum, walk around Central Park. Just be careful, it’s a busy place, lots of people. And it can be expensive. But if you’re smart, you can find things to do that don’t cost too much. Just walkin’ around, seein’ the sights, that’s somethin’ in itself. It is a good place for a staycation.

And don’t forget about them lighthouses. We got lots of them on Long Island. Old ones, pretty ones. You can climb up to the top of some of ’em, see the view. It’s real nice, especially at sunset. Montauk Point Lighthouse, that’s a famous one. Fire Island Lighthouse, that’s another. Lots of history in them old things. Lighthouses on Long Island are good for pictures, too.
Now, up north, way up north, they got them mountains. The Adirondacks, they call ’em. Big mountains, good for climbin’ if you’re into that sort of thing. Lots of trees, fresh air, wild animals. It’s a whole different world up there. It’s a bit of a drive from Long Island, but if you got the time, it’s worth it. I hear it’s real pretty, especially in the fall when the leaves change color. These Adirondacks mountains are good for a long staycation, I tell you.
So, you see, there’s plenty to do on Long Island, even if you ain’t goin’ nowhere. You just gotta use your imagination a little. And it don’t have to cost a fortune neither.
