Oh, honey, you wanna know about them New York fall weekend getaways? Well, I heard some things, let me tell ya. These city folks, they like to get out when the leaves start turnin’. They call it a “getaway”. Sounds fancy, huh?
They say New York, that big ol’ place, it ain’t just all them tall buildings and yellow cars. Got lots of places ’round it where you can see them pretty leaves. Like, up in the mountains, where it gets all quiet and peaceful. Not like the city, always honkin’ and hollerin’.
One place, they say, is called the Hamptons. Fancy name. I heard it’s where all them rich folks go. Got big houses and all that. But it’s also supposed to be real pretty. They say there are beaches, even though it’s gettin’ colder. And a big light, a lighthouse, they call it, up on a hill. You can see it from far away, I bet.

They got other places too. Somethin’ called the Catskills. Sounds like where them furry critters would live, right? But it’s mountains. Big ones. Good for walkin’, I reckon, if you like that sort of thing. And lots of trees, turnin’ all them colors. Red, and orange, and yellow… Just like a big ol’ quilt, spread out all over. You can look at it all day.
And they got these little towns, scattered all ’round. With them little shops, sellin’ all sorts of things. Apples, I bet. And pumpkins, this time of year. Good for makin’ pies. Oh, I do love a good pumpkin pie. Maybe they got cider too, that warm apple drink. Good for a chilly day. These fall weekend getaways in New York are something, I tell ya.
They even got places you can stay. Little inns, they call ’em. Or cabins, up in the woods. Not like them big hotels in the city. More cozy, I guess. With fireplaces, maybe. Good for keepin’ warm when it gets all frosty outside. I wouldn’t mind sittin’ by a fire, watchin’ them leaves fall.
Now, how do you get to these places? Well, I ain’t exactly sure. Maybe you take a car. Or a bus. Or maybe even one of them trains. They got lots of trains in New York, I hear. Goin’ every which way. If you want a good New York getaway, you gotta take a train, I think.
Here’s a little list of what they say is good to do on these fall getaways:
- Look at the leaves. That’s the main thing, I reckon. Just look at all them pretty colors.
- Walk around. In the woods, or in them little towns. Just stretch your legs a bit.
- Eat apples. And pumpkins. And pie. ‘Cause it’s fall, and that’s what you do.
- Drink that cider. The warm kind. It’ll keep you toasty.
- Sit by a fire. If you can find one. And just relax.
- Maybe visit that lighthouse in the Hamptons. If you like them big lights.
They say fall is the best time to go. ‘Cause of the leaves, you see. Before it gets too cold, and all snowy. Then it’s harder to get around, I imagine. And you gotta wear them big ol’ coats, and boots, and whatnot.
These New York fall weekend getaways, they sound kinda nice, I gotta admit. Even for an old gal like me. Maybe one day I’ll go see them leaves for myself. Sit by a fire, drink some cider… Sounds peaceful.

But you gotta be careful, I hear. Lots of people go to these places in the fall. ‘Cause everyone wants to see them leaves. So it can get crowded. And them little inns, they might be all full. So you gotta plan ahead, I guess. Book a room early, or somethin’.
And it ain’t cheap, I bet. Gettin’ out of the city, stayin’ in them inns… Probably costs a pretty penny. But maybe it’s worth it. To see somethin’ different. To get away from all the noise and the rush. To have a good fall weekend getaway.
They got these things called “apple orchards” too. Where you can pick your own apples. Right off the tree. Imagine that. Never done that before. Sounds kinda fun, though. And you can probably buy them apple cider donuts. Heard them things are mighty tasty. So many things to eat during these New York getaways.
So, if you’re thinkin’ about one of them New York fall weekend getaways, I say go for it. See them pretty leaves. Eat some good food. And just relax. Sounds like a good time to me. As long as it does not snow, then you are in trouble.
Just remember what I said. Plan ahead. And be prepared for crowds. And bring your wallet. ‘Cause it probably ain’t gonna be cheap. But hey, you only live once, right? Might as well enjoy them pretty leaves while you can. And the lighthouse. Don’t forget about that.
