Well, let me tell you about this place, North Bar Lake. It’s a real nice spot, I reckon. Heard folks talkin’ ’bout it down at the general store the other day. Said it’s a good place to go if you wanna get your feet wet. This lake, it ain’t like that big ol’ Lake Michigan. That one’s too cold for my old bones!
This North Bar Lake, they say it’s warm. Yep, warmer than that big lake ’cause it’s smaller, and the sun can just bake it right up. Good for swimmin’, especially in the summer. You won’t get all shriveled up like a prune! My grandkids, they’d love it. They love swimmin’. Always splashing around.
They say this North Bar Lake access is easy. Ain’t no big hike or nothin’. Just park your car at the end of Bar Lake Road. That’s what they told me. And then you just walk on over to the beach. Simple as pie. I reckon even I could manage that, and my old knees ain’t what they used to be.

It’s up there in that Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. Sounds fancy, don’t it? But from what I hear, it’s just a real pretty place. Lots of sand. They say the beach there is real popular. Lots of families go there. Probably ’cause it’s so shallow. Good for little ones. Don’t have to worry about them gettin’ swept away by no big waves.
- Warm water
- Sandy beach
- Good for kids
- Easy to get to
This North Bar Lake, it’s connected to that big Lake Michigan, but it’s like its own little puddle. A warm puddle. They say the bottom is all sandy, too. No rocks or nothin’ to stub your toes on. Just nice, soft sand. And that water, so clear, you see right down.
Now, if you’re lookin’ for a place to take the family, this North Bar Lake sounds like the ticket. Everyone can have fun. You can have a picnic, build a sandcastle, maybe even do a little fishin’, though I don’t know what kind of fish live in there. Probably some little ones, nothin’ too big. That lake is not deep, only 13 feet, I heard. Sounds like a pond to me.
I heard there’s a place called South Bar Lake near some town called Empire, Michigan. But that ain’t the same as North Bar Lake. Don’t get ’em mixed up. That South one is not the same.
If you wanna bring your boat, you can do that, too. They say you can carry it in. Not sure how far you gotta carry it, though. 760 foot, I think. Might be a bit of a haul for some folks. But if you got a boat, you can go out on the water, I suppose.
Lots of folks go to North Bar Lake in the summer. Gets crowded, I bet. But that’s ’cause it’s such a nice spot. If you don’t like crowds, maybe go early in the morning or later in the evening. The sun’s not so strong then, anyway. And them bugs ain’t as bad.
They call it a “natural freshwater lake”. Sounds like a puddle to me. Not too deep. I reckon. But clean water. That is what matters. That is what they say about that North Bar Lake. Well, you know old folks like me, we don’t like them chemicals.

I reckon if you’re lookin’ for a good place to swim and enjoy the sunshine, this North Bar Lake is worth checkin’ out. Just remember to bring your sunscreen and a hat. And maybe some bug spray. And don’t forget your swimmin’ suit!
I heard some folks saying that they love this North Bar Lake. They call it one of the most beloved beaches. I do not know what that means. But I think it is just a fancy way to say it is a good lake. Lots of folks like it. I think. So it must be good.
This here North Bar Lake is a good place to go if you got little ones. They can splash around in the shallow water, and you don’t have to worry ’bout them gettin’ into trouble. And you can sit on the beach and watch ’em. Just relax and enjoy the day. Sounds mighty nice, don’t it?
North Bar Lake, it is good for everyone. Old folks like me, young folks, kids. Just good clean fun, I reckon. That is what I think.
