Lifer Bowl: What’s All the Fuss About?
I heard folks talkin’ ’bout this “Lifer Bowl” thing. Don’t rightly know what it is at first. Sounded like somethin’ you eat outta, ya know? Like a big ol’ bowl for your supper. But then I hear more and more, and it ain’t no bowl for grits or nothin’. Seems like it’s some kinda game, or maybe somethin’ on that there internet thingamajig the young’uns are always fiddlin’ with.
So I asked my grandson, that whippersnapper knows everything ’bout them computer things. He tells me it’s a game, like that football the fellas watch on TV, but different. He says it’s “retro,” whatever that means. Sounds fancy, but I bet it ain’t nothin’ compared to a good ol’ fashioned game of catch in the yard.

- It’s a Game, Apparently: From what I gather, this Lifer Bowl ain’t about food. It’s a game, like them fellas throwin’ the pigskin around. But this one, you play it on the computer, or maybe that phone thing. Don’t make no sense to me, why play a game on a screen when you got a whole world outside?
- Retro Style, They Say: My grandson says it’s “retro.” Reminds me of them old black and white movies, I guess. Everything looks old-timey, not like them fancy graphics they got nowadays. Maybe it’s cheaper that way, I dunno. Seems like folks like things that look old these days.
- Playing the Game: I peeked at the screen when my grandson was playin’. Looks like you control them little fellas runnin’ around, tryin’ to throw the ball and score. He was yellin’ and tappin’ on the screen like a chicken peckin’ corn. Said somethin’ ‘bout turnin’ off the “simulation” so he could play everythin’ himself. Guess you can let the computer play for you, if you’re lazy. He went into the “settings menu” to do it. Said it was “simple.” Kids these days and their fancy words.
Anyways, this Lifer Bowl, it seems easy enough to play, even for an old woman like me. My grandson said it’s like that other game, Tecmo somethin’ or other. You get to be the boss man, the “general manager” he called it, and you tell the players what to do. Sounds like a lot of work to me, I’d rather just watch them fellas run around.
I asked him if it cost money to play. He said no, it’s free on somethin’ called “Chrome,” which I guess is like a window to that internet world. He said somethin’ ‘bout an “extension” and it bein’ “unblocked.” Lord knows what that means, but it sounds complicated. He also said it don’t need no internet once you got it, and there ain’t no pesky ads poppin’ up all the time. That’s a good thing, I reckon. Nothin’ I hate more than them ads interruptin’ my stories.
Do-It-Yourself Kind of Thing?
Now, I also heard some folks talkin’ ‘bout doin’ things yourself, like makin’ your own toilet bowl cleaner. Don’t rightly know why you’d wanna do that when you can just buy it at the store, but folks these days, they like makin’ things from scratch, I guess. Maybe it’s cheaper, or maybe they just like the smell of vinegar and lemon, which my grandson says is the kinda stuff people use. That’s a whole ‘nother story, though. It’s got nothin’ to do with this Lifer Bowl game, far as I can tell.
Social Media Buzz?
And then there’s that social media stuff. My granddaughter, bless her heart, she’s always on her phone, lookin’ at pictures and talkin’ to people she can’t even see. I saw her scrollin’ through somethin’ and I caught a glimpse of “followers” and “following.” She said somethin’ ’bout people sharin’ their Lifer Bowl scores and strategies. Sounds like a whole heap of nothin’ to me, but I guess it’s how the young’uns connect these days. Seems like everyone wants to be seen and heard, even if it’s just about a silly game on the computer.
So, What’s the Big Deal?

So, from what I can gather, this Lifer Bowl is just a game, a simple one at that, that folks play on their computers or phones. It’s got that old-timey look, it’s free, and it don’t have no ads. People seem to like it, they talk about it online, they share their scores. It’s like a little world they can escape to, I guess. Me? I’d rather sit on the porch, drink some sweet tea, and watch the real world go by. But hey, to each their own, I always say. If it makes ‘em happy, let ‘em play their Lifer Bowl.
And if you want to play too, just remember what my grandson said: it’s “simple and lightweight”, you play it on the “Chrome Browser” using a little “extension”. Seems like anybody can get it. Now go on, have your fun.
