Well now, let me tell ya ’bout them Port Angeles fireworks. It’s a big deal, ya know? Folks get all excited, just like when the church bell rings for a potluck.
First off, they got this here parade. Happens right downtown. Big ol’ floats goin’ down the street, people wavin’ flags and such. Starts at 6:00 PM, they say. I reckon it’s a good way to kick things off. Kids love it, all that noise and color. Reminds me of when the rooster gets loose in the hen house, only prettier.
Then, there’s the music. This year, they got a band playin’ Eagle’s songs. Eagle Eyes, they call ’em. Free concert, right there on Front Street. Starts at 8:00 PM. Now, I ain’t much for that rock and roll, but the young’uns seem to like it. Plays till the fireworks start, so you got somethin’ to do while you wait.

- 6:00 PM: Parade downtown
- 8:00 PM: Free concert on Front Street (Eagle Eyes)
- Around 10:15 PM: Fireworks!
Speaking of waitin’, that’s the hardest part, ain’t it? Everyone’s lookin’ up at the sky, antsy as a cat in a room full of rocking chairs. But let me tell ya, it’s worth the wait.
They say you can see them fireworks from pretty much anywhere in town. But the best spot, they say, is right downtown. That’s where I like to be. You get the full effect, see? All them colors burstin’ in the air, makin’ you feel like a kid again.
Where to Watch, you ask? Well, like I said, downtown is good. Some folks go to Crescent Park, they say you get a good view there too. And there’s this place called Field Hall, but that’s for members only. Fancy folks, I guess. Me? I’ll stick with the regular crowd.
Now, some places got their own parties and such. Like that Field Hall, they have a special viewin’ party in their Sunset Lounge. But you gotta be a member. There are other places around Port Angeles too, havin’ their own little shindigs. You can find ’em online if you’re into that sort of thing. Me? I just show up and watch the fireworks. That’s all I need.
They say this here firework show is for Independence Day. Fourth of July, they call it. A big holiday, all about bein’ free and whatnot. Sounds important, but to me, it’s just a good time to get together with folks and watch some pretty lights in the sky. Reminds me of when we used to set off bottle rockets back on the farm, only much, much bigger and fancier.
This year, the fireworks are gonna start around 10:15 PM. That’s kinda late for an old gal like me, but I ain’t gonna miss it. Not for nothin’. It’s a tradition, see? Like bakin’ a pie for the county fair. You just gotta do it. And let me tell ya, these fireworks ain’t no little sparklers. They’re big and loud and they light up the whole sky. They call ’em “bombs bursting in air,” which sounds a bit scary, but they’re real pretty.
So, if you’re lookin’ for something to do on the Fourth of July, come on down to Port Angeles. Watch the parade, listen to the music, and then get ready for the main event – them fireworks. You won’t be disappointed. Just remember to bring a blanket or a chair, ’cause it can get a bit chilly sittin’ around waitin’. And maybe some bug spray, too. Them mosquitoes can be fierce, specially near the water.

And that’s all there is to it, really. It ain’t rocket science. Just a good ol’ fashioned firework show. Nothin’ fancy, but it’s a good time. And that’s what matters, right? Gettin’ together with folks, celebratin’, and watchin’ somethin’ pretty. So come on down and join the fun. You’ll be glad you did.
Port Angeles Fourth of July, it’s a day to remember, just like the day my prize-winning pumpkin took first place at the county fair. Only louder and with more sparkle.
