Alright, let’s chew the fat about this Dickies thing, you know, whether it’s that “fast fashion” stuff or not. I ain’t no fancy scholar, but I can tell ya what I see and what I hear.
Now, this “fast fashion,” from what I gather, it’s all about them clothes they make real quick and sell real cheap. Like, they whip ’em up in them big factories over in Asia, places like China and India. Heard they got whole towns over there just makin’ clothes! And them clothes, they ain’t made to last, ya know? Wear ’em a few times, they rip, they fade, then you toss ’em and buy some more. That’s how them big companies, like that Shein and Zara, make their money. Heard Shein’s the biggest one now, sellin’ more than anybody. And then you got places like JCPenney and Kohl’s, they sellin’ that stuff too.
So, is Dickies like that? Well, lemme tell ya, Dickies, them work clothes, they been around a long time. My grandpappy wore Dickies, my daddy wore Dickies, and I wore Dickies when I was workin’ the fields. They was tough, sturdy stuff, made to last. You could wear them pants for years, mend ’em a few times, and they’d still be good to go. That ain’t like this “fast fashion” stuff, no sir.

But then again, things change, don’t they? I see these youngsters wearin’ Dickies now, not for workin’, but for lookin’ fancy. They got all sorts of colors and styles, not just that plain ol’ brown and blue. And they ain’t payin’ much for ’em neither, seems like. So, maybe Dickies is doin’ some of that “fast fashion” too, makin’ some cheaper stuff to sell to them young’uns. I dunno for sure, but it makes ya think.
- Dickies of old: Tough work clothes, last a long time.
- Fast Fashion: Cheap clothes, made quick, don’t last.
- Dickies now: Some still tough, some maybe not so much.
See, them big companies, they gotta make money, that’s the bottom line. And if folks wanna buy cheap clothes, well, they gonna make cheap clothes. But it ain’t right, if you ask me. All that waste, all them clothes endin’ up in the trash. And them folks makin’ the clothes, they ain’t gettin’ paid much neither. It’s a whole mess, this “fast fashion” thing.
Now, Dickies, they still make some good, strong work clothes. You gotta look for ’em, though. They got them thicker pants, the ones made outta that heavy cotton, those are the ones that last. And you gotta pay a little more for ’em, but it’s worth it in the long run. Don’t be fooled by them cheap, flimsy ones, they ain’t gonna hold up.
I reckon Dickies is kinda straddlin’ the fence, ya know? They got one foot in the old ways, makin’ them durable work clothes, and one foot in this new world of “fast fashion,” makin’ them cheaper, trendier stuff. It’s up to you to decide what you wanna buy. But I’ll tell ya this, you buy cheap, you get cheap. And that ain’t the way things used to be.
I remember when you bought a piece of clothing, you expected it to last. You took care of it, mended it when it tore, and wore it till it was threadbare. Now, folks just throw things away and buy new ones. It’s a different world, I tell ya. And this “fast fashion,” well, it’s a big part of that change. So, is Dickies “fast fashion”? Maybe some of it is, but not all of it. You gotta be smart about what you buy, that’s all there is to it.
Remember, them old sayings are still true: “You get what you pay for” and “Buy cheap, buy twice.” So, if you want clothes that last, you gotta be willin’ to spend a little more. And that goes for Dickies too. Don’t just grab the first thing you see, look at the material, feel the weight of it. If it feels flimsy, it probably is. And if it’s too cheap, well, you know the rest.
So, there you have it. That’s my two cents on this whole Dickies and “fast fashion” business. Ain’t no easy answers, but that’s the way I see it. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I gotta go mend a hole in my old Dickies pants. These things, they been with me for years, and they still got plenty of wear left in ’em.
